The nominees for the Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning, officially sending dozens of writers, producers and actors sprinting off to pen their acceptance speeches.
"Lincoln" led the way with 12 nominations, including those for Best Picture, Best Actor (Daniel Day-Lewis) Best Supporting Actress (Sally Field) and Best Supporting Actor (Tommy Lee Jones). Steven Spielberg also received a Best Director nomination for the film.
Behind "Lincoln" was "Life of Pi," which picked up 11 nominations including Best Picture, Directing (Ang Lee), Adapted Screenplay, and Cinematography.
"Zero Dark Thirty," a drama about the hunt for Osama bin Laden was nominated in the Best Picture, Best Actress (Jessica Chastain), Best Original Screenplay and Sound Editing categories, but director Kathryn Bigelow didn't get a nod.
Actress Emma Stone was on hand to announce the nominees for the coveted Oscar statuettes, along with comedian and "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane. MacFarlane will also serve as the host of this year's ceremony, which is set to take place at the Dolby Theater (formerly the Kodak Theatre) on Sunday, February 24, with the live telecast airing on ABC at 7 p.m. ET.
