Topless photos of a current winter Olympian are causing a stir in her relatively conservative home country of Lebanon.
On Monday of this week, racy video and pictures of alpine skier Jacky Chamoun started making their rounds on the internet. The 22-year-old is seen posing topless on the slopes of a Lebanese mountain resort. Her friend and fellow Lebanese skier Chirine Njeim (pictured below) is also said to appear in the video, although Njeim is not a competitor at the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.
Chamoun has already adressed the scandal on her Facebook page, where she had this to say:
I just want to make it clear to everyone who commented, shared the photos that appeared on the net in Lebanon yesterday. Yes I did photos for an Austrian ski calendar with other professional athletes 3 years ago. The photos of the photoshoot are not like the actual images that are now circulating on the net. The video and photos that you are now seeing are part of the making off [sic], the preparation, it wasn’t supposed to go public. Anyways, I want to apologize to all of you, I know that Lebanon is a conservative country and this is not the image that reflects our culture. I fully understand if you want to criticise this.
Chamoun then asked her Facebook fans to stop spreading the photos so she can concentrate on her sport during the games.
According to ABC News, the Lebanese media is calling this incident a "scandal," and the country's Youth and Sports Minister, Faisal Karami, has implored the president of the Lebanese Olympic Committee to investigate "as soon as possible in order to the take the required steps to [avoid] harming Lebanon’s reputation and international participation."
But what do you think? Is this really a "scandal" at all? Check out a few more pictures of Chamoun and Njeim on the slopes below, then let us know what you think.
