It’s the year 2072 and the mob is using time travel to send its victims back 30 years to get blown away by a hired gun otherwise known as a "Looper."  The days of the DeLorean are over — not sure ‘The Doc’ would approve.

Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is one such assassin living in the year 2042. While on a job, he recognizes his target (Bruce Willis) as a future version of himself. Pretty cool, right? Well, it would be if what followed wasn't a series of convoluted plot twists and turns that resulted in a confusing, apparently random sequence of events that was never fully explained.

At one point Joe’s future self sums it up pretty well to his younger counterpart when he says, “If we start talking about it, we’re going to be here all day talking about it, making diagrams with straws.” Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Gordon-Levitt is the shining star in this one. Going in, I wasn’t really convinced he'd be able to play a young Bruce Willis, but he nails his co-star's facial expressions and tics to a tee.

The Date Nighter Says: Unless you want to spend the rest of your night discussing the finer points of the space-time continuum, I’d save this for a rental.
